The Gold Standard

Local Anaesthesia Infiltration and Nerve Block Anaesthesia

For many years, local anaesthesia has been the gold standard in dental anaesthesia. In this procedure, the anaesthetic agent (articaine) is administered through an exceptionally fine needle in the area of the operation site. This results in numbing, preventing the perception of any pain stimuli for a period of time (approximately 1.5 hours).

In cases of severe inflammation, local anaesthesia may sometimes reach its limits, as the acidic environment associated with inflammation can impair its effectiveness.

If you would like to choose this form of anaesthesia but would prefer a distraction, please feel free to bring along headphones and/or a sleep mask. Both are permitted in our practice.

Pain-Free to Your New Smile

General Anaesthesia / Intubation Anaesthesia

If you wish to be completely unaware of the procedure, general anaesthesia is the method of choice. You will be thoroughly informed, sedated, and continuously monitored by a specialist anaesthetist.

The preferred medication for intubation anaesthesia is Propofol, which is administered intravenously, tailored to your physical condition. This will “switch off” your reflexes and senses, while your breathing is maintained via a tube.

During and after the procedure, you will be meticulously monitored to ensure you experience your visit with us in complete relaxation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Sedation in twilight sleep is a form of anaesthesia in which sedative medications are administered to the patient to achieve a state of relaxation, pain relief, and reduced consciousness during a procedure.
Unlike general anaesthesia, the patient is not fully unconscious during twilight sleep sedation but rather in a sleep-like state. The patient may respond to verbal cues and follow simple instructions, yet they will have little to no memory of the procedure. Additionally, the costs associated with twilight sleep sedation are lower compared to general anaesthesia.
When properly administered by our trained medical staff, sedation in twilight sleep is safe. However, as with any medical procedure, there are risks and potential side effects, which is why a thorough patient history is always taken beforehand and proper monitoring is carried out during the procedure.
The experience can vary depending on the individual. Most patients report feeling relaxed and drowsy, with no pain and little to no recollection of the procedure.
The recovery time varies depending on the nature of the procedure and the medications used. Typically, most patients are fully awake within a few hours after sedation.
Yes, as with any medical treatment, there can be side effects associated with twilight sleep sedation. Possible complications include breathing difficulties, allergic reactions to medications, a drop in blood pressure, and other issues. We take great care to minimise these risks through thorough patient history assessments and the use of trained medical professionals.
